Adventure's Paradise:Skandagiri

Skandagiri Located approximately 70km from Bengaluru ,Bellary road(NH 7 Bengaluru - Hyderabad highway) via Bangalore International Airport and about 3km from Chikballapur.Known for its night trekking and can witness stunning sunrise and ocean like clouds.Nearest town is Chikballapur and nearest airport in Bangalore International Airport,Devanahalli. One of the finest place around Bengaluru for trekking.

My First trip to SKANDAGIRI

We went there by bike,6 bikes 11 people [Myself, Rathnakara, Praveen Naik, Akshay, Jagannath, Jagannath Rai, Jyothish, Lohit Datta, Ramesh, Dananjay and his collegue. Our starting point was Majestic. We all gathered in Majestic by around 3.10am in the morning and started one of our finest & first journey to Skandagiri at 3.15am.Half an later we reached Hebbal flyover

[ via Central, Malleshwaram circle, Indian Institute of Science, Mekhri circle,Hebbal] waiting for our 2 more team members.

We left Hebbal flyover half an hour later. From there just move along NH 7the same way which takes us to Nandi hills only thing is for Nandi hills we need to take a left turn while for Skandari we need to take a right turn.We reached Kandavara Halli the foothill of Skandagiri via Muddenahalli at 5.00am in the morning.
There are few houses at the foothill where we can park our vehicles even if you want any non veg items to be prepared they will cook for us.They will also arrange for a guide if at all any one is needed. We hired a guide as this was our first trip there, he charged about 300rs but finally agreed to come with us for 150rs.

We started trekking at 5.10am.Skandagiri is located about 1350meters above sea level. We must carry light food items, soft drinks, water and first aid box.Even local villagers camp on the peak and sell omelets, cool drinks, tea, and other stuffs but they will charge you heavily, so better carry some stuffs.Level of trekking is moderate and we managed to reach top of the hill by around 6.00am we were dam quick, ordinary trekker may take about 2hr.We hardly required 1hr.Morning 6 was the right time and sun was about to rise.By the time we reach the peak there were some 300 odd people at the top already. When sun started to rise everyone were screaming like anything,
I seriously felt this was the place I couldn't have missed. At that moment I couldn't believe whether I was in Karnataka or in Kashmir.Beautiful, great,Superb and magnificent.Guys don't miss it!!!!

After enjoying the sunrise we all were very hungry as didn’t carry any food with us, we moved into localities camp have some hot omelets and Maggi.

We had nice breakfast and sat there for some more time then we started our return journey. And it took about same amount of time to get down from the hill. There are quite a few beautiful temples around Skandagiri hills must visit places. We also went to Nandi Hills on the way.

Summer of 69

For some childhood days will their best days, for few people their college days ,for some their graduation days and for some life will be better after they get a job. But for me as of now my graduation days were my best days. Those were the best days of life.

On first day of my graduation I was little nervous & bit scared about those ragging stuff. I opted Chemical engineering course and it was was combined with Information science branch for first 2 semesters. On first day there were no classes as such but our seniors took a introduction class, where each one of us were supposed to introduce our self about our interest, hobbies, family background and what’s the reason behind choosing chemical engineering courses. This was the session which I hated the most. It was my turn to introduce my self; I was very shaky to start. Some one from back side asked me what your favorite sport is. Trying to be different I said football. Honestly speaking I was not following football. Next question was favorite football club some how I managed to say Real Madrid questions keep coming, next was captain of that club?? I was done this time, my mind was completely??????????If that wasn't enough few seniors made me to sing a song from Puneeth Rajkumar latest flick at that time, which I did. This was ok with me but few of my classmates were badly humiliated by this. And everyone knew that was part of our graduation days. There is not much to write about first year as we were combined with IS and it took some time to adjust with these students, whom we know that they wouldn't be with us after 2nd semester.

For 3rd semester we were shifted to our own Chemical Engineering Department this is were all the fun started, oh man I love this place. There were hardly 20 odd students in our batch I would like to take their name I don’t know how many of them I can recall. Abhishek Pandey, Amit Kumar, Deep Banerjee, Anupama V Joshi, Deepa K, Ranjini Rajeev, Renu Kotagi, Lehari, Zaveri Nazim, Sunder Rajan, Rajashekariah S Mahantinamath, Phani Kumar, Sandeepa N, Sunder Rajan, Mohammed Suhail Ahmed, Mohammed Sadig Saifulla, Syed Tyeb Kasim, K V Vinay myself Naveen M G, I could remember only these many.

Our Chemical Engineering journey started here,

I would like to mention that it was tough, really tough. B these were our teaching faculty. Most of us were very regular to Prof Sikdar and Veena mam classes, as they were very strict when it comes to attendance. More over they were in the race for next HOD post. Very few have taken chance against them. And they have paid for that risk. To be frank professors have made them to pay. So no one in our batch was willing to take risk against this 2 professor. At the same time we were bunking other lecturer’s classes. As the days went we started gelling, knowing each other. On each passing day bonding between us got stronger and stronger. As a result of this we started mass bunking. As usual at the end of the semester everyone were busy preparing for exams by collecting notes from other colleges, some preparing their own notes, some falling behind professors for increasing their internal marks, some students asking for few more tests along with some important questions so that they get some good marks at least by this way, everyone has done everything. Preparing and writing exams was one story, waiting for results was the other story even before our results, there would be rumors surrounding our campus that results are out, so many of them have got through, so many have flunked just rumors, rumors, rumors,,,,

College and studies were boring at this stage, and then we planned for a trip. Every one of us knew that college won’t permit any unofficial trip. Someone gave an idea "Why don’t you make it as Official??? Official how??? Instead of mentioning as trip can’t we mention it as Industrial trip, well that was cool… Then we started working on it. In order to get permission from college there was one condition. Each one of us needs to submit a letter signed by our parents that they have no objection in sending their children for an industrial visit. Which we did .Once that was done we got permission from our HOD and by our principal. That is when we started "Operation Mangalore"

Operation Mangalore
The longest day was waiting. We had planned to leave Bangalore around 6.30pm in the evening. Bus had arrived by 4 pm. Most of us were there by 5pm.But, and then came the storm; our lab instructor who was supposed to accompany us was not coming. Industrial trip without lecturer or instructor no way, Industry wouldn't allow us. Then we tried to contact other lectures, we literally forced them to come with us but none were ready. Then finally we called our HOD, who asked us to cancel the trip, which we were not in a position to do. Bus had arrived, we had paid them, rooms were already booked it was far from our imagination to cancel the trip. Now the time was already 10.Then we tried our last chance by calling to Prof Veena she was always with students but she was not free either to come with us. But she said to go head with the trip whatever comes will handle together, that was enough for us. Finally everyone agreed to this, then we left by 11pm.Morning we reached Mangalore got freshen up, then left to MCF (Mangalore Chemicals and Fertilizer) it was my first ever industrial visit. We had already taken the permission from respective authorities. When we went there someone asked for our lecture to get in and sign for documents, which was actually company formality. But there was no lecturer, one of my classmates named Sadiq acted as a lecturer and visited the plant. It took us about 4hr and in the evening we had some fun in the hotel that was the end of first day.

2nd day there was no industrial visit we had kept it for sight seeing. We had planned to visit a beautiful place called "St. Mary's Island”. One of the best places visited so far. Since it is an Island we need to carry food from city itself. There will be a boat to carry people. It’s a very small Island where fishing is allowed, we can play volley ball, damn good place. We spend whole day in that Island most memorable part of our Industrial trip. Then came our last day, morning we visited MRPL "Mangalore Refineries and Petrochemicals limited”. Afternoon we went for boating, then visited THOUSAND PILLAR temple it was damn good. Evening around 4.30 we went for a trekking I don’t remember name of the place but it was perfect place for trekking. There was a temple over the top of that hill. Then we visited our dearest friend Mohammed Sadiq house, he was the man who arranged everything perfectly. We had a nice dinner in his house and left Mangalore that night. And Sunday morning we reached Bangalore. Next day we need to go to college need to face our lecturer oh!! God. Next day as usual we went to college as if nothing had happened most of the lecturers were pissed off. But we didn’t care damn about that and the day went pretty well .Again the same lecturers, same old boring classes, bunking, movies, hotels, chatting etc etc. As time passed we entered 3rd year even in this year we went to Mysore and MadKeri it was like ok trip nothing much to share about this.

Then came our final year. “Final year always known for fewer subjects more fun” even we did the same "less study more fun”. As we entered final year there was more responsibility on us, as we were seniors and we were supposed to organize national level student symposium which we call it as CHEMOVATION.Few professor in our department believed that it was not possible from our batch, but at the end we showed what we are capable off.

Process kicked off by collecting funds from various industries and organization, designing posters and banners. Every year there was only seminar but this year we had planned to do something different. In addition to seminar we planned to organize Slow Drag Race [First time ever in DSCE campus, something that we can be proud off] and we went ahead with our plan. Our final year group was split into 4 groups in order to organize the event in a smooth way. One group was dealing with banner and poster designing, one more group was in constant with various colleges across India for inviting participants, and rest two groups were busy in collecting funds, arranging accommodation, arranging transportation and food. Few professors helped in getting funds from big industries and all students from 2nd and 3rd year also worked hard along with final year in order to get funds. In midway we also started inviting participants for slow drag it was a disastrous start but recovered fantastically well in the end. We went to various engineering colleges in and around Bangalore to get participants which got pretty good response.

CHEMOVATION 07 banners were displayed near almost all the engineering colleges and also we had advertised through FM channels, news paper and even we also had a press meet. Almost 3lakh (App) fund was collected for our mega event CHEMOVATION-07.

First day of our event was full of paper and poster presentation started with a speech from our friend/mamu Mr.Sadiq and speech from our honorable chairman Dr.Premchandra Sagar.

But we were looking for next day which was packed with slow drag and with some cultural events. Even on the day of slow drag, entries were coming in huge number. We had called RJ from BIG FM 92.7 for giving live commentary and to share participant views live. To be frank it went pretty well, as per planned and it was a huge huge success. Cultural events were arranged in the evening; even I participated in 2 mime show which came out pretty well. Finally event was concluded by an emotional[very emotional indeed] speech from our friend Anupama Joshi[JayaBachan].Next day all the professor ,every one in the department were extremely proud and happy about the way the event was organized, even we [every individual in final year] felt proud.

In order to celebrate this success we final year students planned for a trip. Tour de Goa via Yana, Dandeli, Karwar then to………………Goa. After Chemovation the following weak was off for all the final year students. One sad thing was all the students didn’t come for trip only few managed to make it includes Anupama,Deepa,Sunder,Rajshekar,Sadiq,Suhail,Ravikumar,Deep,Amit,Phani Kumar, Sandeep and myself Naveen. We hired a TT and we were off to Goa.

We were supposed to leave Bangalore by evening around 6-7pm because of our late latif Sunder we left late in the evening. I was supposed to catch the bus from Nelamangala itself, I was ready and was waiting for the bus from 7pm itself but I was able to catch the bus around 11pm, really not kidding. All the guys were hungry expect me because I had finished dinner at home itself. Then we went to Kamat refreshment {NH-4}.Then started our best journey.

During our journey we watched Ghajini movie, Next day morning around 6.30am we were in Sirsi, we booked a room in order to get fresh, there only we finished our breakfast headed to Yana.I had never been to Yana before, I was very excited. Road was not proper to reach that place, as a result we need to go there by walk which is about 3km.We got some soft drinks, fruits and some snacks from Sirsi only as we will not get anything to eat in Yana. We had some brief photo session over there. It took about an hour to reach that beautiful rock structure called "Yana".

We enjoyed a hell lot there, while coming back there was small water fall on the way. I and Phani Kumar jumped into water while most of our friends were still on the way. I and Sadiq later stripped Phani completely!!!

I swear he was completely nude that was something I always remember
. Later that evening we left to Dandeli we reached there by around 7 pm.Already rooms were booked courtesy Anupama Joshi.

Got freshen up and went in search for a good non veg hotel which we managed to find around 9.30 pm. Then came to our room and all were busy planning next 3 days that we were going to spend in Goa. While discussing our plan Anupama and Deepa told that they are not coming to Goa with us because of their parent’s strict orders. Even we tried to convince Anupama's parents but everything in vain. Deepa was having no issues coming to Goa with us, but if she accompany us Anupama will be alone, so she decided to stay with her. We all were much excited that we will be leaving to Goa the next morning. The next morning we visited Anupama's relation [Now Mother in law] we finished our breakfast over there itself. Then we guys left to Goa from there, where as Anu and Deepa decided to picnic in and around Dandeli.
We reached Panaji in the evening and decided to take a trip in Cruise after that we left to new Goa now called as Margoa.

We were there by around 10 pm then we were looking for accomodation. Finally we managed to find rooms beach side by around 12am, yes 12am.We checked in got freshen up and left the room by 1.00am.First went to Calangute beach, this was my first trip to Goa, seeing those beached I felt that it does not get better than that, superb, Simply superb. We sat in a shack guys started boozing but I was done with Hookah, ohm!! That was heaven, man!!! Felt really good. We were beach in the room by about 4 am in the morning. Slept for a while, got up early and left to beach again. I felt that Goa beaches are beautiful during night but I was wrong, beaches in day looks damn glamorous than during night. Those topless beauties, those wonderful bikinis. Oh! Man, Oh! Man, what else you want .Wine, Penny, Hookah, Women, Alcohol you get every thing over there.

Entire day we spent in that beach. Enjoyed fully.

We came to room late night hardly we slept. Next day was fully for sight seeing, we went to Aguda Fort and Chapura fort. Chapura Fort [Dil Chahta Hai Spot] beautiful, really beautiful.

Later that night we all went for shopping. Next day we went to Baga beach there we enjoyed all the water sport [Para gliding, banana, motor sport] it was cool.

In the afternoon we left Goa, honestly no was in mood to leave Goa. Evening we reached Karwar from there we picked Anu and Deepa later that night we reached Bangalore. I can never forget this one weak that I spend with my team mates.

Cheers! Cheers!! Cheers!!!

After that trip every one got busy with their project work, exams and stuffs like that and final semester came to an emotional end. There was a small get together party at the end of the semester and then we left. Guys I love all, this is from my bottom of my heart. You guys Rock!!!!!!!!
